Philippine Reports Death of Filipino Caregiver in Israel

(MENAFN) Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos has confirmed the first recorded death of a Filipino national amid the escalating conflict sweeping the Middle East, as the human toll of the crisis begins hitting close to home for the Philippines.

In a video message posted to social media on Sunday, Marcos disclosed that a Philippine caregiver had been killed in Israel — a tragic loss made all the more poignant by the circumstances surrounding her death. According to the president, the caregiver was slain in an act of selfless devotion, having been fatally caught while attempting to shield her patient and escort them to safety in a bomb shelter.

"We join in expressing our heartfelt condolences to the family," Marcos said.

The president confirmed he had received official reports of the fatality following the rapid deterioration of conditions across the Middle East, marking a sobering milestone for a nation with a significant overseas workforce concentrated throughout the conflict-affected region.

Marcos also reiterated that the government is maintaining a close and continuous watch over the welfare of Filipino nationals stationed in the Middle East, with particular attention directed toward those in areas most exposed to active hostilities. No immediate figures were provided regarding the total number of Filipinos currently at risk, though the government signaled that monitoring efforts remain at full intensity as the situation on the ground continues to evolve.
